Holy Habit / Life of Enclosure
The religious habit is a sign of religious consecration.
It clearly marks one who belongs to God alone.
The person who wears the habit is a witness
That God exists and that I have given my life totally,
I have separated myself from family, property,
My own career, my own choices,
TO BE GIVEN TOTALLY TO GOD.
Just as the religious Habit is a sign that those who wear it
have consecrated their lives to God,
so the “grate” or the “grille” is a sign
that a Carmelite has also chosen to withdraw from the world.
