Holy Habit / Life of Enclosure

The Religious habit is a sign of Religious Consecration.  It clearly marks one who belongs to God alone.  The person who wears the habit is a witness that God exists and that I have given my life totally, I have separated myself from family, property, my own career, my own choices, to be given totally to God.

Just as the religious Habit is a sign that those who wear it have consecrated their lives to God, so the “grate” or the “grille” is a sign that a Carmelite has also chosen to withdraw from the world, to be apart from the world in order that she may pray unceasingly for the world.
